The Cs

I had a great time in New York. I went to lots of sessions, back-to-back, marathon style without even stopping for lunch. I hope to be blogging about them in the coming days, but for now I'm recovering, catching up on grading, and trying to find my focus for the jobs at hand again.

It was especially good to see the bloggers--Mike, Joanna, Dennis, Bradley, Clancy, Daisy, Timna, Lanette, Sharon (the other), et al. And does it count that I saw the back of Collin's head while I listened to Clancy speak?

I also got to see a little of New York. This is a pretty big deal for a woman from South Mississippi. Let me just say about this that I challenge any of you to keep up with Nell Ann Pickett. She might be 72, but those little legs keep going and going. I think we walked through all of Manhattan on Saturday. Then we went to the Metroplitan Museum and kept walking at the end of the day. A good time was had by all.

I WANT TO MEET NELL ANN PICKETT. Sorry for the all caps, but I am serious. Everyone raves about her potent mojo, and I want to experience it for myself.

She's definitely one of a kind. I'll make sure you meet her at the next Cs. Or if you want to road trip to Mississippi, I'll take you to her house. She might put you to work on the farm, but she'd be happy to meet you. :)

Squee! Where in MS are you again? Maybe I can do a side trip next time I visit my family.

Never mind, I found you. It's kind of a long drive, but the Trace is lovely; plus I have a good friend in Jackson too.

I live in Hattiesburg, but Nell Ann lives in rural Hinds County. I'd have to meet you in Jackson to take you out to her house. If you have a friend there, that would be perfect.

I'm doing a series of interviews with her as part of my oral history project. Maybe you could get in on this somehow. I'm giving the interviews to the state archives, but I'd like to write something about our visits in the end. Having other people interview her as part of the project is not a bad plan. She'll remember and tell different things to different people.

She's known me my whole life, so some things she won't bother to explain to me because she knows I already know.

Hmmm...
